On Saturday, April 20, Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will clash with Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) for Haney’s WBC super lightweight title at the Barclays Center in New York City, NY on a card promoted by Matchroom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions. The event will be available as a PPV on DAZN around the world. Five Fights from Devin Haney’s Record: George Kambosos Jr. II
On October 16, 2022, Haney comfortably won the first fight against George Kambosos Jr. and had to go back down under to take on his Australian rival once again. The result was even more comprehensive the second time. Haney took the first few rounds to figure out Kambosos, who was switching stances.
“The Dream” boxed brilliantly behind his jab, controlling the distance and pace of the fight. He put his punches together well and sat down on his punches, which seemed to confuse the Australian fighter. The judge’s scorecards read 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110.
Regis Prograis
On December 9, 2023, we witnessed the definition of dominance, as Haney quickly established control over the distance, which helped him dominate the fight against Regis Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs). He showcased his repertoire of skills, punching from various angles at will. Round three saw a razor-sharp right hand from “The Dream” drop “Rougarou,” confirming his control.
Haney buckled the legs of Prograis in round six, and the rest of the fight saw Haney’s hand speed confuse Prograis, who could not read where the punches were coming from. The judge’s scorecards read 120-107 x 3.
Zaur Abdullaev
On September 13, 2019, “The Dream” defeated Zaur Abdullaev in a dominating performance, with ring doctors ending the fight at the bell to start the fifth round, with the Russian sustaining a suspected broken cheekbone.
His dominating jab was once again out in force during this fight, which helped him control the tempo and put together combinations off the jab. Recently, Big Fight Weekend looked at the by-numbers breakdown of the bout, and this was the last stoppage win for Haney.
Vasiliy Lomachenko
On 20 May 2023, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada, Haney took on the Ukrainian legend Vasiliy Lomachenko. It was a closely contested fight, with both men having successful moments. Loma produced impressive combinations throughout the fight, while Haney worked well on the back foot, countering effectively. Haney ended the fight, sitting down on his punches and landing at an impressive rate.
The judge’s scorecards read 116–112 and 115–113 x2 in favour of the American, which garnered some criticism after the fight. Despite the scoring complaints, one thing for certain is that both men are among the best fighters in the world.
Joseph Diaz
On December 4, 2021, Haney successfully defended his WBC lightweight title against Joseph Diaz, winning by 12 round unanimous decision. It was another example of Haney showcasing his superior speed and reach advantage, which ensured he was in control for most of the fight. He mixed his shots well in this fight, switching between the head and body of Diaz.
The Californian fighter had moments of success when he closed the distance but was unable to sustain any of this work, due to the intelligence of “The Dream,” who won with scores of 117–111 x2 and 116–112.
