Dodgers Rumors: Could Emmet Sheehan Be on the Move at Deadline?
USA TODAY Sports

The Dodgers are in a very unfamiliar territory at the trade deadline this year. Usually, LA is a buyer and not much of a seller, but this year might be a little bit different.

There's a couple of spots the boys in blue could look to upgrade, and one young, star pitcher might be involved in a trade to get a big name like Tim Anderson or Lucas Giolito.

That name is Emmet Sheehan.

Over his first five big league starts, the former sixth-round pick out of Boston College has gone 3-0 with a 4.91 ERA, but his upside is what is attracting the attention of the league.

He tore up Double-A this year with a 1.86 ERA and 88 strikeouts over 53.1 innings, and that's what earned him the call-up straight to the big leagues. But overall, the Drillers rotation could be loaded with trade pieces come August 1. Let's look at some teams that could be interested in Sheehan come the trade deadline

The Chicago White Sox

This one's pretty much the most obvious one out there. The Dodgers need pitching and possibly a shortstop. What do the White Sox have? Exactly that in Tim Anderson and Lucas Giolito. It would take an absolute haul to get both of them at the same time, so Sheehan's name might fall into the trade to sweeten up the deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates might surprise some people this year, and one way to do that would be to move some of their top prospects. Oneil Cruz is the shortstop of the future for that team, and while he's injured right now, the Pirates have plenty of middle infield prospects that they could move. Look out for somebody like Nick Gonzales or Liover Peguero to be on the move, and if the Dodgers can make it happen, somebody like Jun-Seok Shim might find their way on to the Dodgers if the deal gets sweetened with someone like Sheehan.

The St. Louis Cardinals

Masyn Winn could be a possible target here for the Dodgers. He's the Cardinals' top prospect, and with the help of adding somebody like Sheehan to a deal, the Dodgers could possibly get Winn and one of the Cardinals' top pitching prospects like Gordon Graceffo or Michael McGreevy.

While it would be hard to say goodbye to such a young, talented prospect like Sheehan, the Dodgers just keep reloading and retooling for the future through the draft and in the lower level of the minor leagues.
