Former Wolverine thinks Chargers are going to draft 'a lot' of Michigan players

A new era is beginning in Los Angeles after the Chargers named former Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach this offseason.

A new regime taking over usually means several changes to the roster, and that's exactly what has happened over the past couple of months.

Los Angeles traded wide receiver Keenan Allen to Chicago while watching running back Austin Ekeler (Commanders), wide receiver Mike Williams (Jets), tight end Gerald Everett (Bears) and linebackers Kenneth Murray (Titans) and Eric Kendricks (Cowboys) leave via free agency.

The expectation is that the Chargers will address their remaining needs in the 2024 NFL Draft at the end of April, and one former Wolverine thinks Harbaugh may be a little biased when Los Angeles is on the clock.

"I wouldn't be surprised if like all nine of us end up going (to the Chargers)," Roman Wilson said during an appearance on the "NFL on Fox" podcast. "But seriously, like at least five or six. I think he's going to take a lot of us."

Wilson is likely referring to Los Angeles' nine draft picks as there were 18 Michigan players that attended the NFL Scouting Combine.

However, Wilson could be onto something, as those players helped Harbaugh win a national title in his final season with the Wolverines. Now that he's trying to win another championship at the next level, he could look to reunite with some of his former players.

Wilson certainly fits the bill as the Chargers are in dire need of wide receiver help after losing Allen and Williams. The 22-year-old posted a career-high 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023.

He is unlikely to be Los Angeles' top draft selection at No. 5, but he could turn out to be the team's second-round pick.

"I'd love to go out there and play, especially at pick 37," Wilson added. "I wouldn't be upset with that. I'd get to reunite with my coach and maybe some of my former teammates. I'd absolutely love that."

Only time will tell how many of Harbaugh's former players he's eyeing, but it would not be surprising if he adds at least a couple in the draft, though five or six may be a stretch.
